The property of a circuit or circuit element that opposes a change in current flow, thus causing current changes to lag behind voltage changes. It is measured in henrys.www.birnbach.com/TechnicalInformation/glossary/I.htm The property of an electric circuit that opposes a change in current flow.www.customautosounds.com/faq.html (L) In general, the ability of a conductor to produce a magnetic field. In particular, magnetic flux divided by current, measured in henries (H). L=F/I. Or, the voltage (back emf) a conductor generates divided by rate of change of current in that conductor (self inductance) or another conductor (mutual inductance). L= -V/(dI/dt), where dI/dt is the rate of current change.www.rcmicroflight.com/library/glossary.asp refers to the ability of a device to store energy in the form of a magnetic field. Cables have a certain inductance per foot. In its simplest form, an inductor consists of a wire loop or coil. The standard unit of inductance is the henry, abbreviated H. This is a large unit. More common units are the microhenry, abbreviated μH (1 μH =10 -6 H) and the millihenry, abbreviated mH (1 mH =10 -3 H). Occasionally, the nanohenry (nH) is used (1 nH = 10 -9 H). ...www.meritec.com/Pages/custom/glossary.html The capability of a coil to store energy in a magnetic field surrounding it. It produces an impedance to an AC current. Inductance is measured in Henrys, although milliHenry is more common.www.dilettantesdictionary.com/index.php (Motor Winding Constant) - This is the inductance of the motor armature as measured at the motor terminals. It is given in millihenries.www.servomag.com/reference/glossary.htm An electric force field which builds up around a conductor.www.e-ratecentral.com/resources/help/glossary/i.asp The characteristic of coil or wire to cause the current to lag the voltage in time phase. Inductive wiretaps use physics of inductance.www.tscmvideo.com/glossaryi.shtml the "size"of an inductor, not the actual physical size, but the "electrical" size. The unit of inductance is the Henry, or "H". Most power supply inductors, or chokes, are measured in henries, typically 2-20H. The inductance of a transformer primary may also be several henries. Smaller inductors are measured in millihenries (mH - 10^-3 henries) or microhenries (uH - 10^-6 henries).www.aikenamps.com/AmpTerms.html coil of wire in which current is induced.www.intmath.com/Complex/Pt7_ap.php The quantitative factor that describes the "inertia" of an electrical circuit to resist changes in current.highered.mcgraw-hill.com/sites/0072480823/student_view0/glossary.html An electromotive force that has been induced by a varying current in a conductor (measured in Henrys).www.satellite-tv-hq.com/telecom-glossary-i.htm Property of a circuit to oppose a change in current. The moving magnetic field produced by a change in current causes an induced voltage to oppose the original change.www.sciencelobby.com/dictionary/i.html Inductance is a value commonly associated with speakers and speaker cables. Inductance occurs when a cable creates an opposing charge which resists the original electrical charge. While inductors are commonly made from a coil of wires, straight wires can exhibit inductance as well. ...www.aviccable.com/i/dictionary.php A changing current in a coil produces a changing magnetic flux. The changing magnetic flux results in an induced current flowing in the coil. The unit is a Henry. One Henry is the inductance of a circuit that produces a counter-force of 1 volt when the current flowing is changing at the rate of 1 amp per second.www.scientificindia.com/gi.htm Inductance opposes a change in current in an electrical circuit. Alternating Current (AC) varies with time; electromotive force is generated to oppose the current flow. Electromotive force is defined as: Force that occurs due to the voltage produced by a magnetic field that is in opposition to the magnetic field that is around a coil. The voltage is induced in the coil when the magnetic field cuts the coil. Current moving through the coil forms a magnetic field around the coil. ...www.peakagents.ca/glossary/i3.htm induction: an electrical phenomenon whereby an electromotive force (EMF) is generated in a closed circuit by a change in the flow of current inductor: an electrical device (typically a conducting coil) that introduces inductance into a circuit wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn Inductance is a physical characteristic of an inductor, which is an electrical device that produces at any time a voltage proportional to the instantaneous rate of change in current flowing through it. The symbol L is used for inductance in honour of the physicist Heinrich Lenz. The SI unit of inductance is the henry (H). The term inductance was coined by Oliver Heaviside in February 1886. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inductance
